NetBox version

v4.0.3

Feature type

Data model extension

Proposed functionality

  • Edit multiple devices, which are not assigned to a rack already. Have the option to assign them to a rack, as non-racked.
  • Edit multiple devices, which are to a rack already. Have the option to assign them to a rack, as non-racked, or keep the original position. Related cabling between the multiple devices within the rack should be kept, other cables should be removed / disconnected.

Use case

When creating equipment upfront of a rack installation, user needs to edit each device manually to assign the equipment to a rack. It would be great to be able to assign multiple devices to a rack, as non-racked. And when moving multiple equipment from one rack to another.

Database changes

none

External dependencies

none

Thank you for your interest in helping improve NetBox.

Before our team can give your feature request issue proper consideration, it needs a more thorough description of the proposed functionality. For example, do you imagine it adding or changing any views or API endpoints? Have you gamed out whether the proposed functionality might impact models beyond devices and racks, such as power feeds?

If you're ready with a more in-depth proposal, please edit the original issue body to include it. If this issue is still at the "good idea" stage in your mind, we can always convert it to a discussion so that you and others in the community can riff on it collaboratively.

We can convert it to a discussion.
From my end its just the lack of functionality to apply multiple devices to a rack rather than having to do it one by one. The drag-n-drop pluging helps for placing "non-racked" devices to the rack. But you still have to enter each device an assign the rack
