Proposed functionality

Allow InventoryItems to be created without a device. Allow it to be associated to a site or location.

Use case

By allowing users to create InventoryItems not associated to a device, they can track spares and a plugin developer could associate lifecycle status (end of sale, end of support, support status) to the InventoryItem.

Database changes

FKs to location/site.

External dependencies

This has been proposed in the past, and we have concluded that offline inventory management is out of scope for NetBox. For tracking spare hardware, consider a purpose-built tool such as Inventree.
