"In 2018 The Wi-Fi Alliance created the simpler generation labels Wi-Fi 4 - 6 beginning with Wi-Fi 5, retroactively added Wi-Fi 4 and later added Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E." Source: Wikipedia

Those Wi-Fi trademarks/brands "are offered license free and intended to be used widely throughout the Wi-Fi ecosystem by Wi-Fi Alliance members, non-members, industry partners, media, and analysts to describe products, technology, network deployments, and operating system support." Source: https://www.wi-fi.org/our-brands

Use case

These generation labels are commonly used by now and easier to remember than IEEE standards like 802.11be for example.
