NetBox version

v4.3.0

Feature type

Change to existing functionality

Proposed functionality

Expand the filter view so that you can filter by device types that have or do not have instances.

Use case

We use the Netbox Git project ‘Device-Type-Library-Import’ to automatically import all device types from the official library. This way we avoid creating device types that already exist in good form.

There are currently a total of 3,938 device types in our NetBox instance, including our own. However, we would like to be able to filter the device types actually used without using the sort function in the ‘Insances’ column. Because then it restricts the actual sorting and filtering.

Database changes

I'd suggest that if this feature was being implemented for Device Types, it should also be extended for Module Types and Rack Types.

I know the wider library already has Module Types, and there's been discussions to add Rack Types in it too, so if this feature is being implemented for Device Types, I'd suggest extending it to also cover Module and Rack Types while you're at it. The implementation would be basically the same for all three.

I would advise against this approach. You're importing thousands of device types for no reason.
