It would be great if you could remove something from a playlist either with a button on the mobile app, or better still a tick box in the configuration of the playlist to have it auto remove items that are complete, otherwise list maintenance has to be done when at the web interface every time

I still think your suggestion is good, but just FYI you can remove a book from a playlist by going to the book's details page and selecting the three dots, and then selecting "add to playlist". That brings up the list of playlists and you can tap the "-" minus sign to remove it from that playlist.

+1 from me; I would prefer the checkbox in playlist settings - this way its automagic and I don't have to think about it ...
