I can't find a way to download locally the books I'm reading or listening. I am using a friend's instance but I don't want to annoy him every time asking to send me a book over.

You can select the book (top left of each book) and then download the book at the right top.

You can also download individual files. If you do not see the option, your friend did not give you download permission
