What happened?

Hi, I use Audiobookshelf mostly while driving. It happened a few times that when I get back to my car and hit play to my current book, it restart at the start of my last listening session ignoring the last session's progress. It doesn't happen every time so I'm puzzled. Is there a "workflow" I should know like I have to stop or pause the listening before stopping the car or other ways I can force the recording of progression? It's very frustrating because when I start driving, I can't play with the controls to find my last position in the book.

I work in software developement and I know how intermittent issue are annoying. Feel free to ask me to test things if you need. I know you can't have access to every client's configurations.

There is a closed bug with the same problem https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelf/issues/2039

I'm very grateful for your great software. Thank you for all the effort you are putting into developing it.

What did you expect to happen?

I'm expecting Audiobookshelf to keep track of my listening progress no matter the client I use to listen to my book.

Steps to reproduce the issue

  1. Download book A to my Android 15 Phone (Pixel 8)
  2. Connect my phone to my Kia Soul EV 2020 using Android Auto (USB)
  3. Hit the Play button for Book A using Audiobookshelf interface on my car's display
  4. Listen to the book. Let say from 1h05 to 2h10 while driving.
  5. At destination, stop the car
  6. The next day, in the car. Repeat steps 2 and 3.
  7. The playback starts at 1h05 (but sometimes it starts correctly at 2h10)

Audiobookshelf version

2.23.0

How are you running audiobookshelf?

Docker

What OS is your Audiobookshelf server hosted from?

Linux

If the issue is being seen in the UI, what browsers are you seeing the problem on?

Problem in android Auto

Not sure is pausing before stopping helps or not but I can say that the problem doesn't always happen. More often the progression is saved. It is why I'm wondering if there is a sequence of actions I can do to prevent the problem.

For sure it would be better if the software always keep track of the progression.

There are several Android Auto issues open in the app repository https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelf-app

Thanks. I was not aware I opened this bug in the wrong repo. I'll follow https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelf-app/issues/1516
