I'd prefer for the app to never rotate to horizontal.

It'd be nice to have a toggle in the settings that lets a user force vertical orientation for the app.

You could manage this with iOS shortcut to have lock rotation enabled when you open the app then have it disable when you close the app.

I have tried this shortcut and it doesn't always work... looking forward to orientation lock being available in iOS.
