Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It's a pain to have to manually download every podcast episode to your Android/iOS device from podcast feeds you follow (needed if you are often without mobile data/have a low data cap).
Describe the solution you'd like
A method of automatically syncing the latest x episodes to the Android/iOS app.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Other podcast apps e.g. PlayerFM offer this functionality. Afaik this must be done manually with audiobookshelf, apologies if I've missed something!

Came from the Discord group.
I was looking the same feature. A toggle to auto download to local storage from the server as soon it is fetched there.
Have to regularly check by hand becomes annoying with time.
This feature would be more than welcome!
(and right after this https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelf-app/issues/293)

I like the way the app is coming along, but without a feature to automatically download unplayed podcasts/books, this is a 100% no go for me. I don't have time to manually download episodes all the time and I can't rely on streaming everything over cell data.

I am also missing this feature or alternatively supporting gpodder / Open Podcasts API.
For the latter I think something like ABS automatically syncs the episodes to my server for archiving purposes and Antennapod could pull them from their via the gpodder API. Or maybe something like PinePod does by connecting as a client to an gpodder API server and thus keeps in sync with other devices (though currently this seema not to be 100% reliable).
If this feature would be integrated in the ABS ecosystem only I'd love to not be able to just download the last x episodea but rather have something like a podcast queue where I throw in the episodes to be downloaded.
Not sure which way is the better one. Cluttering an audiobook centric app with podcast features (where we already have e. g. Antennapod) or just adding an API endpoint or an API client feature to sync to the podcast ecosystem.

Ok yeah just installed server and app today and I guess I just assumed this basic feature was included. Anything us non-coders can do to help get this going?

Automatically add new episodes to playlist, automatically cache everything in the playlist and automatically delete from local storage once played. I'm trying to switch over from Podcast Addict and this is the functionality that's keeping me there.

Seriously this has been opened for years. Why can't the mobile apps have an auto download for podcasts?

also would appreciate this feature. All the self hosted communities I've browsed pointed to Audiobookshelf for podcasts but if this feature isn't included I will have to look elsewhere

Sorry, but where is this setting?

Just a little bump to manifest an other user who would like to have this feature 😊
