Describe the Feature/Enhancement

On Android, when long-pressing the app icon on the home screen, the launcher shows a context menu with app shortcuts. Android supports dynamic shortcuts, allowing apps to offer context-aware quick actions — like jumping directly to recently used content.

It would be incredibly useful if Audiobookshelf used this feature to display the last 3 to 5 books the user opened, as dynamic shortcuts.

Each shortcut would directly open the selected book (text or audio), bypassing the need to launch the app and navigate through the bookshelf.

Why would this be helpful?

  • It would provide faster access to frequently or recently read books, improving daily usability.
  • It's a native Android feature that feels natural and intuitive for users.
  • It mirrors the experience of productivity apps like Chrome, Keep, or Kindle, which offer direct access to recent items.
  • No need to reinvent UI flows — just use the OS-native shortcut interface.
  • Bonus: users can pin a favorite book shortcut to the home screen directly if desired.
