What was the Problem?
The notification player in One UI v7.0 Android v15, no longer shows consistently. It was working before the recent update to One UI v7. This makes it difficult to play/pause easily. I've also noticed that the connection to my watch player also has stopped working, though this could be a separate issue.
Steps to Reproduce the Issue
Play a book, go home and pull the notification panel down. There's no longer a player showing, most of the time. This only stopped working with the recent One UI v7 update.
What was Expected?
A notification player where you're able to play/pause the book. This should happen when the last "music/audiobook" player used was audiobookshelf.

Is this a One UI v7 bug? I don't have a samsung device but I did a quick search and there are some posts about notifications on One UI v7 being an issue.

It's possible, however Youtube, Audible, and Spotify all work as expected and stay persistent. I'd love to know more how it works, because my preference is that what played last is always what shows first. Even before the update, if i played a youtube video in the last week, it'd always show up in the notifications panel first, even if i just played audiobookshelf. it seems there is some sort of hierarchy and audiobookshelf doesn't get as high a priority, or maybe there's a persistence time? Happy to help in any way i can.

Chiming in that I'm also having this issue and appears related to OneUI 7. But as others have said, not having this issue in any other apps. Might need some kind of Samsung specific workaround?

I've noticed this behavior is particularly prevalent when using Bluetooth. iOS may be experiencing similar issues:

Just started using the app on a Galaxy S24 (Android 15, OneUI 7.0) and having to unlock the phone to pause was getting a little annoying. Settings say the app doesn't have any notifications so they're not blocked.
For me the notification isn't inconsistent, it's non-existent.

I have done some more broad research on this and it appears that if an app never requests for notifications access then this can happen. I have downloaded the app from the Play store, F Droid and Obtanium linked to github. All of them install with notifications instantly blocked with no way of enabling. If you go into the notifications app options it isn't even in the list.
I searched through the app and didn't find anything in settings that would prompt for notification access.
I would be more than willing to test any build trying to alter things. Perhaps if the app requested permission for notification access it would work. I agree with a guy either above or on Discord, it's really frustrating to have to re-open the app to pause the book. I can't seem to pause with my earbuds either, most likely because it doesn't have that notification media control access.
Another odd and probably useless point. If I open the web player from the app and use it via the browser the notification player works. However that still has the issue of not being able to utilize downloaded books.

That seems to be on the right track but I think it might be a bit more nuanced. Looking at the full app permissions, it specifically has permissions for "Run foreground service with the type 'mediaPlayback'". Perhaps it just needs the background service equivalent.

Yeah I think you're right there. I had a similar thought as you so started digging through the other apps permissions. I don't think its something as broad as notification permission. I have notifications blocked for Spotify but it still utilizes the persistent notification tray media controls.
That lead me to see many other media apps utilizing "run foreground service with the type "dataSync""
After reading up on what that does in a broad sense it gave me an idea. I streamed one of my books that was NOT downloaded and it utilized the media controls just fine. So there must be something with how the downloaded media file is played.

Oh that's interesting... And would make me sad as I always download to local. But I guess I'd be willing to stream if it would bring back persistent media controls.

One UI 8 here and doesn't matter if I download or not, the Media control notification and the lock screen controls do not show up. Interesting enough sometimes you can control media through the media submenu.
