The default time the screen will sleep is 20 seconds. audiobookshelf will keep the screen awake until the player stops.
I've tried other audiobook apps and they do not appear to have this issue.
Steps to Reproduce the Issue
Start an audiobook
Place iPhone in charge to start Standby mode
What was Expected?
The screen should sleep after 20 seconds.

After using this for awhile, I actually prefer this behavior. Closing my own issue.
