Battery not charging at all after uninstall #265

Device: 2020 13" Macbook Pro, MacOS 11.6

I installed AlDente to manually limit my charge to 80%, but it seemed to create some weird lockups when plugging in or out a charging USB-C cable, so I uninstalled the helper app and quit the main app. Now the battery simply doesn't charge at all. I've tried disabling "Optimized battery charging" and Manage battery longevity".
The only thing that helped was reinstalling Aldente with the helper app, but if I uninstall it again the charging stops. Any suggestions on how to revert this behaviour? Let me know if you need more details too.

Same issue here. Also the option to charge battery to 100% now disappeared from the battery menu in top bar. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @backhand and @pepastach,

please answer the following questions:

  • Which exact MacBook model do you use?
  • Which macOS version do you use?
  • Which version of AlDente (Free, Pro, version) do you use?
  • Did you use the Intel Mode?
  • Did you use the uninstallation functionality of AlDente?
  • Did you use AlDente in the Intel Mode?
  • Did you try an SMC reset?

Cheers,
Matthias

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacOS 11.6 (20G165)
  • AlDente 1.07 (Free) installed via Homebrew
  • Not sure what is Intel mode. My Mac has Intel CPU though...
  • Uninstallation procedure according to https://apphousekitchen.com/how-to-uninstall-aldente-pro/ (after setting the charge limit to 100% I let it fully charge, then proceeded with the uninstallation)
  • I did an SMC reset (shutdown, hold Control+Option+Shift for 7 seconds, than also hold power button for 7 seconds, release all at once, power on)

What is the exact behavior of your MacBook right now after AlDente is completely uninstalled?
Does it recognize when you plug in the charger?
Does it use the charger as a power source when you plug it in?
Does it charge up to a certain percentage?

Please check if your charging starts when you disable optimalised charging in Macbook preferences. I'm running over similiar issue and have noticed it works when I'm disabling this feature

I was experiencing this same issue but it now seems to be fixed. I re-installed AlDente and that seemed to restart my charging but then I uninstalled it again using the steps highlighted here: https://apphousekitchen.com/how-to-uninstall-aldente-pro/ and now everything seems to be working fine, optimized charging enabled and all. Hope this helps!

I am also using an Intel Macbook Pro running on macOS 11.6

Hi @backhand,

Do you still encounter this issue?

Otherwise, I would close this issue for now.

Cheers,
Matthias

the first time I deleted Aldente I wasn't aware of the steps te be taken to uninstall it, now whenever I plug it no matter the battery level, it shows me the plug icon like if "charging was on hold", it's like some kind of bug from this App impregnated in my macbook system, I've tried everything, from reinstalling the app and follow the steps to delete it properly, also manually, even reinstalled the OS but nothing seems to help, why is this App so damn intrusive?, how do I fix this? my macbook was working flawless before this App. it's a m1pro btw, is it even optimised for this model?

Were you able to solve the issue?
